RULES

Overview

In Hidden Mythos, you will start out with a set of cards representing gods, places, heroes and monsters, your pantheon. All of these cards are hidden, so you need to remember which are which. These cards all give you points, but they have varying needs you need to fulfill in your other cards. Take cards from the other pantheons, swap them around, keep track of which card is where. After everyone has spent all their possible actions, reveal all your cards at the same time to see who has won!

Setup

  • Each player takes action 13 cubes.
  • Shuffle the 20 cards and deal 4 to each player, the rest are not used.
    • IF PLAYING WITH TWO PLAYERS: Put 4 random cards in the middle of the table next to each other.
  • Every player carefully looks at their 4 cards and lays them face down next to each other in front of them.
  • Choose a start player. If you are playing multiple games, this is the player in the lead.

Cards

Each card has a suit/type, a point value (which may be variable), and occasionally additional text. Suit is represented both by color and the symbol at the top. There are 4 suits, god (gold), monster (purple), hero (green), location (blue). A slash or an X in the value field denotes that the value changes depending on the text. The position of cards matters, so they may never be moved unless done by an action.

Flow of play

Each turn, you may secretly peek at exactly 1 card in the game, and then select one of the four actions. Play then continues to the next player

The actions are as follows:

  • Pay 1 cubes - Give a card to another player
  • Pay 2 cubes - Swap any two cards
  • Pay 4 cubes - Take a card from another player
  • Pay 2 cubes - Shuffle all your cards and rearrange them

You cannot give, take or swap the card you just peeked at in the same turn.

If you are out of action cubes, you are done and can take no more turns. You cannot pass your turn otherwise and must always take an action if able.

IF PLAYING WITH TWO PLAYERS: The middle essentially counts as a "dummy player", and as such, you can give, swap, take to and from the middle as if it were a third player.

End of game

Once every player has spent their action cubes, the game is over. You now flip your cards and count your points. The one with most points is the winner. In the case of a tie, whoever spent their last action cube first wins.

The game is intended to be best when played in a best of 3 format. When playing multiple games in succession, note down your points and continue with a new game, with the winner being decided by point total. The start player is the one in the lead.
